..Then there’s her facial furniture — “horns” on her cheekbones and forehead — that gives her an emaciated look. The horns’ debut came in February when she first tweeted the cover of single Born This Way, and she’s been wearing them ever since. So are they surgically implanted or incredibly convincing prosthetics?

Not a topic for today’s agenda, it turns out. “You know, even until recently with my last two albums [The Fame and The Fame Monster] it became really overbearing when I would do interviews and people would poke at me and ask: ‘What are you wearing? Why do you have to be so weird? You’re always looking for attention.’ It’s just being so misunderstood in that way as an artistic person. I’m just being myself.
“With the new album [also called Born This Way], I remember saying to my mom, my choreographer, my voice teacher, to everyone in the Haus of Gaga ... I said I was born this way and I have to become the bravery of this album in order to give it to the world. I’ve grown into myself. I am who I am and I am not apologising for it.”
