Drawing of collected sound recordings from around Manchester.
I like how it almost looks like tangled cassette tape.

Relating sound with place.
Sound recording can be heard here http://soundcloud.com/rachael-yeung/murkage
I don't like the linear way that the sound waves are hanging on a pin straight line so I experimented with the negative space of the waves.
The shadows that it created was quite interesting also I will work in developing this effect.

The masks on Kahori Maki's illustrations link with my ideas of perception and what we see with our eyes and can be effected by what we hear.
Fact - Robots & Avatars Exhibition
Gallery 2 - personal boundaries of when a robot becomes a living thing. They can touch but not feel.
Robot world by Martin Hans Schmitt - Is a collection of around 200 clips of robots showcasing their uses, and focuses on the development of robots and technology. It made me realise that technology is quite advanced already, and the human fascination with robots had been around for quite some time. Violin music was used in the background of the clips because it's closely linked with the human voice, giving the robots in the clips 'a voice' of their own.
This has made me look into sound and perception a bit more http://www.oup.com/us/catalog/general/subject/Philosophy/Mind/?view=usa&ci=9780199282968

An interesting blog about all this art and sound related. I particularity enjoyed having my eyes opened to all the new and innovative ideas. Discussion on this topic with my peers: "Oh I wish I thought of that idea"
I've realised that sound waves do remind me of stitch from the varying horizontal lines when you open up the sound file in an editing software. So when I saw Audio Visual, a project by Peter Crawley it
was the exact visualisation of that idea. I would also experiment with the zigzag stitch on the domestic sewing machine and see how much of a difference there would be between hand stitch and machined.

After looking at Visual Soundscapes by Pablo Padilla Jargstorf I thought about my colour pallet, and as sound cannot be seen by the eyes I assumed black and white would be perfect.
