Minori's Concept:

"I am doing creative activity as a fairy writer.
All one.
When I die, I die.
When I live I live.
I go back to one while flowing.
I'm kind of thinking.
I was brought up in nature since it was small. I tend to forget beauty of nature, gentleness, but one flower has a story, and there is way of life and I express that there is a heart and want to grow.
I make nature and collaboration impudently. It is thanks.
So that there can be even some minori in minori.
So that there can be you in you."

Her distinctive work has an illustrative quality with its inspiration rooted in the everyday. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art having specialised in Textiles. Since then she has worked freelance trading as Incahoots.
Rather than being material or technique specific, she utilises an inventive broad approach to the drawn mark. Drawing is the integral component, whether made through traditional drawing materials, wire, scraper board or the use of stitch and fabric.
Funding from the Scottish Arts Council has enabled Claire to develop her practice integrating traditional and new technologies. Particularly the use of digital print alongside screen-print and stitch, working in an increased scale in 2 and 3 dimensions suitable for different environments.
Claire is influenced by many things including; the connections and stories within our everyday~ 'the extraordinary in the ordinary'; the clients brief; the world around her.

Workshop 4 - Print for Fabric

RGB, CMYK and LAB.

I decided to try repeat brick pattern again but with a more complicated composition and incorporating wallpaper colour trends for 2013.
I decided to revert back to creating single illustrations and blocks of patterns with the transform tool as I don't think I was as successful with repeat patterns.

I will work on this design concept by adding relevant colours from my colour palette selected from dyed cells.

Workshop 3 - Repeat Patterns

Brick repeat patterns with 3 motifs

From this workshop I decided to create more motifs and experiment with the free-transform tool. I can see this design working well on a shiny fabric, possibly as a print for a scarf or other fashion accessories.
This unfinished piece was inspired by Gabriel Moreno's Santa Teresa where I used the warp and skew tool on the hair.

Lauren's combines drawing with photography layers and structures in her designs.

Her drawings and paintings are filled with graphic patterns, the structures in the hairs conflict in directions although the total flow is a group, in their uncovered skins the females don’t seem to notice the viewer, and when they look at us masks or fabric covers them.
She creates her paintings by sketching with graphite and then create outlines from these drawings.
She prefers to draw on wood, a material that gives her work a traditional feel.
The choice of wood also makes it a precise and time-consuming job, because the wood has a natural grain that makes it necessary for her to use a very thin pen.

COCA-COLA | 2007
In 2003 Zakee was approached by Coca-Cola to design a textile print using the contour bottle. Zakee paid homage to Andy Warhol's Coca-Cola screen-print by positioning the bottles next to each other but added her touch by giving each bottle its own identity with unique illustrations. The design was received so well that it was chosen for use on a full range of products, including homewares, lighting, stationary, bed linen, luggage, and accessories. The product launched in the new Coca-Cola flagship store in Atlanta.

Workshop 1 - Creating Patterns

Using spots and stripe patterns and creating repeats from parts of scanned in images. Here I haven't thought about the merging of stripes and my sketch much, so I think that is why it doesn't quite visually work. However the repetition of the sketch is consistent because of the plain black and white theme.

Patterns in Nature

Dr. Mohamed Babu of Mysore, India shot these incredible photographs, taken as these unusual ants sipped from colorful piles of sugar water. He says that not only did he end up with red, yellow and blue ants, but some of them drank from multiple drops, creating new colours.

Brief

GROWTH

I want to investigate the theme of growth, initially looking at the way natural forms grow and change. I will explore this theme through photography and observational drawing examining organic shape and line. From my research I will produce a range of hand drawings and samples which can then be translated into digital print, experimenting with repetition, scale and layering. To inform my work I will reference contemporary artists Mike Perry, Timorous Beasties and Dan Funderburgh.

M. C. Escher

Prolific artist with mind boggling paintings. Morphing and Metamorphosis.

Relativity is a lithograph print by the Dutch artist M. C. Escher, first printed in December 1953.
It depicts a world in which the normal laws of gravity do not apply. The architectural structure seems to be the centre of an idyllic community, with most of its inhabitants casually going about their ordinary business, such as dining. There are windows and doorways leading to park-like outdoor settings. All the figures are dressed in identical attire and have featureless bulb-shaped heads. Identical characters such as these can be found in many other Escher works.

Damien Hirst Exhibition

Damien Hirst first came to public attention in London in 1988 when he conceived and curated Freeze, an exhibition in a disused warehouse which showed his work and that of his friends and fellow students at Goldsmiths College. In the nearly quarter of a century since that pivotal show, Hirst has become one of the most influential artists of his generation.
This is the first substantial survey of his work in a British institution and brings together key works from over twenty years. The exhibition includes iconic sculptures from his Natural History series, including The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living 1991, in which he suspended a shark in formaldehyde. Also included are vitrines such as A Thousand Years from 1990, medicine cabinets, pill cabinets and instrument cabinets in addition to seminal paintings made throughout his career using butterflies and flies as well as spots and spins. The two-part installation In and Out of Love, not shown in its entirety since its creation in 1991 and Pharmacy 1992 are among the highlights of the exhibition.

Bloody Cow head in room of flies. You could actually smell it if you was close enough.

Preserved Shark. Depending on what angle you view this piece the shark looks alive and about to pounce if you stand right in front of it. It almost allows the viewer to experience what it would be like to be so close to such a dangerous animal.

I found this piece more biologically informative than an art piece, as I felt that it was more of a luxury version of a anatomical model cow.

This room was beautiful even for someone like me that hates all insects, but for the short amount of time that I spent in there I was actually intrigued with the life cycle of the butterflies and how they were coming out of the canvases like a living painting.

There was a sense of order and structure throughout the exhibition which I found particularity intriguing as it nade me think that Hirst has a sense of obsessive compulsive disorder.

There was large colourful pieces of dead flies and  butterflies used in large numbers, which makes you question the sustainabilities and 'eco nature ness' of the work.

The room of mirrored cigarettes and diamonds, big, glitzy, and shiney = today's view of materialism?

Walt Disney's & Salvador Dali - Destino 2003

The film tells the story of Chronos, the personification of time and the inability to realize his desire to love for a mortal. The scenes blend a series of surreal paintings of Dali with dancing and metamorphosis. The target production began in 1945, 58 years before its completion and was a collaboration between Walt Disney and the Spanish surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí. Salvador Dali and Walt Disney Destiny was produced by Dali and John Hench for 8 months between 1945 and 1946. Dali, at the time, Hench described as a "ghostly figure" who knew better than Dali or the secrets of the Disney film. For some time, the project remained a secret. The work of painter Salvador Dali was to prepare a six-minute sequence combining animation with live dancers and special effects for a movie in the same format of "Fantasia." Dali in the studio working on The Disney characters are fighting against time, the giant sundial that emerges from the great stone face of Jupiter and that determines the fate of all human novels. Dalí and Hench were creating a new animation technique, the cinematic equivalent of "paranoid critique" of Dali. Method inspired by the work of Freud on the subconscious and the inclusion of hidden and double images. Dalí said: "Entertainment highlights the art, its possibilities are endless." The plot of the film was described by. Dalí as "A magical display of the problem of life in the labyrinth of time." Walt Disney said it was "A simple story about a young girl in search of true love."
